My role as a Claims Advocate is to empower employers to manage their Workers’ Comp claims

The cost of Workers Compensation cases has changed over the past few years. Reforms have resulted in reduced medical costs, but increased disability costs and allocated loss adjustment expenses- those costs to administer the claims.

In my years of managing claims and working with large and small, private and public employer, I notice a correlation between the level of engagement by the employer with their claim administrator and with their employee in the mitigation of cost. I find that employers who express an interest not only in the cost of the claim but also with the welfare of their employees who are hurt, tend to have better outcomes.

Large employers with more claims have a more thorough understanding of the Workers’ Compensation system and how to manage it. There are small employers who are very engaged because they consider their employees a part of the family. When benefits are delayed or denied, the employee turns to them for help. The employer becomes their employee’s advocate but will sometimes run into roadblocks.  Without the requisite knowledge themselves on how to navigate the system, they often feel stymied.

Engagement for some employers is limited by the amount of resources they can allocate for this endeavor. Some companies are large enough to have departments or people who are assigned the sole task of monitoring their cases. Even then, there are pitfalls that even the savviest employer may have a hard time navigating. For smaller employers, they simply do not have the personnel to spare.

ESM’s Claims Advocates provide assistance to employers. Our familiarity with the various operating protocols of numerous claims organizations and our expertise and knowledge of the complex Workers’ Comp rules and regulations, makes us uniquely qualified to provide the necessary expertise to help.

Overall, I believe the engagement of the employer with how their claims are administered will greatly improve the chances of claims resolving much faster and with the most optimal outcome for all parties.

As a Worker’s Compensation Claims Advocate, my job is to make sure that claims are handled properly and all benefits that the injured worker is entitled to are provided - no more, no less.  I assist many kinds of employers, from small family owned companies to large conglomerates.  I work with private companies as well as public entities. I have managed large non-profit groups as well as for profit companies.

I enjoy using my knowledge and expertise to assist and empower employers to manage their injured employees, keep them working and reducing the cost and impact of work-related injuries.
